Push notifications are a powerful tool that allows your customers to engage their website visitors in real time. With this feature, they can send targeted messages directly to users’ browsers, keeping them informed about promotions, updates, and important announcements—even when they’re not on the website.
Your customers can:
- Send instant or scheduled notifications to their audience.
- Personalize messages with titles, icons, images, and action buttons.
- Segment their audience based on visits, location, device, and more.
- Run A/B tests to optimize engagement.
To enable push notifications for your users, you need to generate and add a VAPID key in your reseller admin account. You must also include the Push Notifications tool in the packages you offer so your customers can access it.
Follow the steps below to set up push notifications for your users and help them maximize engagement with their visitors.
Adding your VAPID keys
VAPID (Voluntary Application Server Identification) keys are a set of cryptographic keys used in Web Push Notifications to authenticate the sender (your server) with the push service (like Firebase Cloud Messaging, Mozilla Push Service, etc.).
VAPID keys help verify that the push notification request is coming from a trusted source, preventing abuse and ensuring security in push notification delivery.
To be able to create campaigns, you need to add your VAPID keys to the platform with the steps below.
Login to your admin account. Go to Settings > Push Notifications.
On the top bar, select Web Push Notification. This will switch the platform to campaign configuration mode.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Once you switch, you won’t be able to return to Social Media Management mode until you complete this tutorial and add your VAPID keys. Make sure you’re ready to follow the steps before proceeding.
Open the VAPID keys generator. You will find the link on the Web Push Configuration section.
Write an email and click on Generate. You’ll receive the Subject, Public and Private keys.
Paste the keys into their corresponding fields. Make sure you include everything inside the quotation marks (“”).
Save your changes. Click on the Save button at the bottom of the page. You should see a Success message like the one below.
From now on, you and your users can seamlessly switch between Social Media Management and Web Push Notification mode. Stay in Web Push Notification mode to set up your first campaign.
Enable Push notifications on your memberships
Now that Push notifications are active, you need to enable them on your plans.
Go to Memberships > Plans. Select the Plan in which you wish to enable this tool. Open the Permissions tab, and go to Web Push Notification. Tick the Enable box.
Indicate how many websites will the users be able to add for push notifications under that plan. You should also add the max number of subscribers they can have.
Select the modules they will have available (we recommend adding all). Finally, click on Save and Update subscribers to apply the changes for all users, including the ones that are already using this plan.
Repeat the process for every plan that requires it.
💡 PRO TIP: To use the push notification tools on your admin account, make sure it’s assigned a plan that includes them. Check out this tutorial to learn how to assign a plan to the admin account.
You’re All Set! Now that you’ve activated push notifications for your users, they can start engaging their audience with real-time updates, promotions, and personalized messages. By enabling this powerful tool, you’re helping them drive more traffic, boost conversions, and enhance user retention.
