Before your AI Assistant can work with DeepSeek, you need to connect your account using an API Key. This secure key links your BotCommerce account to DeepSeek so the AI can process and respond to messages. In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through creating your DeepSeek API Key, adding it to your BotCommerce settings, and topping up credits so your AI Assistant can run without interruptions.
Creating an API Key
Go to deepseek.com. Click on API Platform.
Create an account. Click on Sign Up. You will be asked for a password and an email you need to verify.
Once inside, select API Keys on the left sidebar. Click on Create new API Key.
Give your API Key a name to identify it. Click on Create.
Copy the API Key. Once you close this window, you will not be able to see it again.
Inserting the key on your account
Now, go to BotCommerce. On the left sidebar, click on Control Panel > Settings and Integrations. Go to the AI Integration section.
Turn on the toggle for DeepSeek. Paste the API Key on the corresponding box.
Select a model. We recommend using DeepSeek Chat.
Leave the Instruction to AI box empty. You can provide that same information when creating an AI Assistant Campaign.
Save your Settings. Click on the Save button.
Adding credit to your API key
The API Integration is ready, but you need to add credit to your API Key for it to work. We recommend adding at least 10 USD for optimal performance.
Go back to DeepSeek. On the left sidebar, select Usage. Then, click on the Top Up button.
Select the amount of credit you wish to add to your account. Then, select a payment method.
Provide your card details and send. You should see a success message.
Go back to the Usage section. You should see that your balance has been updated.
💡 PRO TIP: If ever your AI Assistant starts working without explanation, come back to this page and check your balance. Probably, you just need to add more credit. Learn more about DeepSeek API prices here.
Optionally, you can enable the balance alert function. This way, when the balance reaches a certain number, the system will automatically send you a notification to add more credit. To do this, click on “Balance Alert Disabled (Settings)”.
Turn on the toggle for your preferred currency. On this case, we selected USD dollars. Then, indicate the threshold for the alert. Click on Save.
Once your DeepSeek API Key is created, added to BotCommerce, and funded with credits, your AI Assistant is ready to work. With the connection in place, you can start building AI-powered campaigns, training them to answer like you, and improving customer experiences across all your channels. Just remember to monitor your balance and set up alerts if you want to avoid downtime.
